DisplayRide Inc. (“DisplayRide,” “we,” “us”) provides AI dashcams, a fleet portal, and related safety and telematics services. This policy explains what our products record, who can access it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.
This policy applies to displayride.com, the DisplayRide mobile and web applications, our in-vehicle devices, and the RoadData.AI service operated by DisplayRide.
Account holders — fleet owners and owner-operators who purchase devices and hold the account.
Drivers — people who operate a vehicle fitted with a DisplayRide device.
Passengers and other occupants — people who ride in an equipped vehicle.
People outside the vehicle — pedestrians, cyclists and other road users captured by the road-facing camera.
Not everyone covered by this policy has an account with us. Sections 8, 9 and 12 explain what we do with information about people who do not.
Road-facing video. Continuous video of the road ahead while the vehicle is in operation.
Cabin-facing video. Continuous video of the vehicle interior while the vehicle is in operation.
Cabin audio. Where enabled by the account holder, continuous audio from inside the vehicle. Audio is off by default. See Section 3.
Telematics. GPS location, speed, heading, acceleration and braking forces, and vehicle diagnostic data.
Driver alertness signals. Real-time analysis of the cabin video to detect drowsiness, distraction and phone use, and to detect a change of driver. See Section 4.
Event data. Records of detected events — harsh braking, collisions, alerts issued — with the time, location and associated clip.
Audio recording is off by default. It must be deliberately enabled by the account holder, and can be configured at the time of ordering.
When audio recording is enabled:
A notice sticker is displayed in the vehicle informing occupants that the interior is recorded. Entering the vehicle indicates consent to that recording.
The device plays a periodic spoken notice every few minutes reminding occupants that they are being recorded for their safety. This notice cannot be turned off while audio recording is active. The account holder can adjust how often it plays.
Recording laws differ by state. A number of states require the consent of every person to a conversation before it may be recorded. It is the account holder’s responsibility to ensure that their use of audio recording complies with the law wherever the vehicle operates. We provide the sticker, the in-vehicle notice and the configuration controls to support this; we cannot determine on your behalf what your jurisdiction requires.
If you are a passenger in an equipped vehicle and do not consent to being recorded, tell the driver. The account holder controls whether audio is on.
Jack, our in-vehicle assistant, delivers spoken and on-screen alerts only. Jack does not listen for commands, does not use a wake word, and does not record. Audio alerts can be disabled entirely.
Our software analyses cabin video on the device, in real time, to detect signs of drowsiness, distraction and phone use, and to alert the driver and the account holder.
It also detects when the person in the driver’s seat appears to differ from the previous driver, so that an account holder can identify possible unauthorised use of a vehicle. We do not use this to identify who a driver is. We hold no database of identified faces, we do not match against any external source, and we never attach a name to a face.
Consent. Because this analysis may involve measurements of facial characteristics, we obtain written consent from each driver before it is enabled on a vehicle they operate. Consent is collected [describe the mechanism — driver app, form administered by the fleet, or at device setup] and may be withdrawn at any time by contacting the account holder or emailing info@displayride.com.
Retention and destruction. [State whether any facial template, measurement or embedding is stored, or whether the comparison is computed and immediately discarded. If anything is stored, state exactly how long it is kept and when it is destroyed. A published retention and destruction schedule is required by Illinois law.]
Alertness data and driver-change records are visible only to the account holder for that vehicle. They are never included in licensed datasets and are never shared with insurers.
Footage and data recorded in a vehicle belong to the account holder — the fleet owner or owner-operator who holds the account for that vehicle. Where a fleet purchases devices, the fleet is the account holder and signs our agreement; individual drivers do not hold the account.
DisplayRide accesses footage only as described in Section 7.
Where plate recognition is available, it operates for the account holder’s own use only — for example, to identify vehicles involved in an incident affecting their fleet.
Plate data is never included in any dataset we license, is never made searchable by anyone outside the account holder’s own account, and is never shared with law enforcement absent a warrant.
[Complete: which cameras plate recognition runs on, what is retained, for how long, and who within an account can query it. If plate recognition operates in California, a separate ALPR usage and privacy policy is required under California Civil Code section 1798.90.51.]
The account holder can view footage from their own vehicles through the portal, including unblurred footage from their own vehicles.
DisplayRide staff can access unblurred footage only with the account holder’s permission, or where strictly necessary to operate or repair the service, investigate a security incident, or comply with law. This access is logged.
Insurers receive footage only for the purpose of handling a specific claim, and only where the account holder has authorised it. We do not provide footage to insurers for underwriting, pricing or risk-scoring.
Service providers. We use Google Cloud for storage and processing under a data processing agreement. Service providers may process data only on our instructions.
Law enforcement. See Section 8.
We do not sell surveillance access to anyone. We do not offer any product, search tool, standing feed or bulk query capability to law enforcement agencies, and we do not license data to companies that resell to law enforcement.
We require a warrant signed by a judge, or an equivalent court order, before disclosing footage or data to law enforcement. We do not provide voluntary access. We maintain no interface that allows an agency to search our data.
Where we are legally permitted to do so, we will notify the affected account holder of a request before disclosing anything, so that they have an opportunity to object.
[Recommended: We publish an annual transparency report at displayride.com/transparency setting out the number of requests received, the number complied with, and the number refused.]
We license anonymized driving data to third parties for research, mapping, simulation and the training of machine learning models, through our RoadData.AI service.
Licensed footage contains no faces and no licence plates. Before any footage is included in a dataset we license, all faces and all licence plates are obscured — inside the vehicle and on the road. This processing takes place in our cloud environment after upload. Licensed datasets exclude cabin audio, driver alertness data, driver-change records, plate data, and any information identifying the account holder, the driver or the vehicle.
Your choice. Data from equipped vehicles is included in this programme by default under our terms of service. Account holders can opt out at any time through the fleet or personal portal, or by emailing info@displayride.com. Opting out does not affect any other part of the service.
Under California law this practice may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. You can exercise your right to opt out using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in our website footer.
We do not license data to law enforcement agencies.
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Continuous footage on the device | 15 days, then overwritten |
| Continuous footage in the cloud | 15 days |
| Footage from a detected incident, or explicitly saved by the account holder | 1 year |
| Telematics and event records | [confirm] |
| Driver alertness and driver-change data | [confirm — see Section 4] |
| Account and billing records | For the life of the account, plus [confirm] |
| Anonymized data licensed through RoadData.AI | [confirm. Note that once a dataset has been licensed, it cannot be recalled from the licensee. Say so plainly here.] |
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to obtain a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Account holders and drivers can view, download and delete footage directly through the fleet or personal portal.
Anyone else, including passengers and members of the public, can make a request by emailing info@displayride.com. Please tell us the approximate date, time and location so that we can locate any relevant footage. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Footage belonging to an account holder may be subject to their rights as well as yours, and we may need to consult them.
If you were recorded as a passenger or as a road user, you did not enter into an agreement with us, and the account holder controls the footage. You may still contact us at info@displayride.com to ask what exists and to request deletion, and we will act on it or explain why we cannot.
Faces and licence plates of people outside the vehicle are obscured before any footage is licensed to a third party.
We do not sell products directly to consumers for the monitoring of drivers under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Where an equipped vehicle is operated by a minor — for example, in a driving school — it is the responsibility of the account holder to obtain any consent required from the minor and from their parent or guardian before the minor drives or rides in the vehicle. In a driving school, footage of a lesson belongs to the school.
Where we provide services to non-emergency medical transport operators, footage may incidentally capture information relating to a patient’s health. We enter into business associate agreements with covered entities where required by HIPAA and handle such information accordingly.
We encrypt data in transit [and at rest — confirm], restrict internal access, and log staff access to customer footage. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you as required by law.
DisplayRide currently operates in the United States only. Data is stored in the United States.
We will post any change to this policy on this page with a new date. If a change materially affects how we use footage or data, we will notify account holders directly before it takes effect.
